Founding Principles of
Snohomish County Indivisible

Since our founding in 2017, Snohomish County Indivisible has been rooted in the belief that real, lasting change begins with how we treat one another.  We are a community built not just on shared goals, but on shared values, the trust between us that holds us together, even through challenge and growth.

 

These founding principles are not optional:  they are the foundation of who we are, how we lead, and how we serve.  Every leader, volunteer, and member is expected to uphold them fully.

 

Our guiding principles are:

1. Kindness:  We lead with kindness, even when it’s difficult.  Every interaction must be grounded in respect, patience, and goodwill, especially during times of disagreement.

2. Compassion:  We commit to listening deeply, responding with care, and recognizing the humanity in every person we encounter.

3. Caring:  We show up for each other and our community, offering our time, talents, and support without expectation of personal gain.

4. Community:  We prioritize collective action, collaboration, and a deep sense of belonging.  We move together, not alone.

5. Trust:  Trust is essential to everything we do. We earn and protect it through honesty, accountability, transparency, and alignment between our words and our actions.

6. Humility:  We approach leadership and activism with humility, recognizing that none of us has all the answers and that learning is ongoing.

7. Collaboration:  We value every voice.  Leadership is shared, participatory, and inclusive.  No individual agenda should ever supersede the collective mission.

8. Communication:  We believe that honest, open, and respectful communication is essential.  Difficult conversations must be faced with courage, directness, and care, always seeking understanding and resolution rather than blame or division.

9. Humor:  We recognize the power of joy and laughter to sustain us through challenging times.  We nurture a culture where the seriousness of purpose is balanced with the lightness of spirit.

 

These principles are non-negotiable.  They are what have brought us this far, and they are what will sustain us through the work ahead.  Every decision, every conversation, and every action must reflect these values.  If we lose sight of them, we lose the very heart of who we are.
